And Now The Tricks From Halloween...
by Alicia
Okay, I knew the chickens were coming home to roost someday soon after eating all that candy. And today the whole friggin' flock was sitting with me on the scale as I weighed myself.
Let's just say I gained a few pounds and leave it at that. No more than five, but no less than five either. All that chocolate was just not worth it. Whoa! What was that I just said? Not worth the chocolate??? A little glimmer of responsibility in all that darkness of calories? Maybe there's hope after all.
I have officially decided not to run the 3k I signed up for. The nice thing about it is that they do have a walking part of the race but I don't think I'll be doing that, either. From the looks of it, I'll be in Pittsburgh that morning, visiting family. So much for my first race -- but I can't say that I'm too disappointed. I'm proud of my self that I even signed up for one. There will be other races -- ones that I will be completely ready for.
I walked two miles today, and will be heading out the door shortly to finish off my other three, more if I can squeeze it in. I have to head off the creeping mass of chocolate around my midsection and thighs.
Changing subjects, I'm still doing okay camping out in vegetarian territory. One major drawback is the lack of good, tasty salads at fast foods places. When I'm in a hurry, I end up getting french fries (always the small size) instead of the iceberg lettuce salads because those just taste like pesticide covered cardboard to me. I have to learn to pack some healthy munchies in advance of me taking off in the car, so I don't resort to another version of bad food, even if it is meat-free.
Gotta run, er walk. See ya later!

Try the taco-salad (or "Southwest" or whatever it is called) at Wendy's. I'm not sure the chili is veg (but given that its fast food the "meat" might be soy)-- but it has lots of flavor, not too many calories (if you watch the dressing and tortilla chip strips). I am also a big fan the pre-packaged almonds (from Trader Joes) and the pre-packaged baby carrot packs (you can get them at Whole Foods, or in "nice" grocery stores).
Glad you're liking the veggie life-style. Its been great to me-- stick with it, I think you'll find that there are a lot of rewards in it.

Thanks, Ashley for the tips! I forgot about almonds -- they go great with the baby carrots. I'll try the taco salad at Wendy's, too. Didn't think about that one.
