My Nana: a model and a hero at 92
By Alicia
I'm back from Pittsburgh and it was a nice little trip. I went in to see my precious Nana who is getting ready to turn 93 in a few short months. Up until the year before last, she lived on her own, drove her own car, and was involved in about 6 quadzillion clubs and ladies' auxillary groups. Then she started getting frustrated with her body not wanting to do what her mind was telling it. So, wanting to take care of business her way before things spun out of control, she said (commanded, really, like Moses parting the Red Sea) she was going to sell her car and move to an independent living facility. And she did.
And now she's living in a beautiful apartment with a gorgeous view of the river; she's head of the social activities program there, and she just got done being a model! As in, a model for a photo shoot! A photographer needed photo stock with a senior citizen for an ad he was assigned. Now, the details of the rest of the story are a little fuzzy, but somehow Nana ended up being the model at this photo shoot. Unbelievable. If anyone were to ask me to list my heroes, she'd be at the top.
I didn't finish my walking this morning, but I did get a good three miles in. I decided to lift weights instead of finish my walk, since I seemed to tire easily this morning. Not to worry though, since I will finish the rest of my distance later today. It's cool and overcast here in Ohio, and if it were just a little foggy, it would be perfect weather.
As far as diet is concerned, the veggie thing is still going strong. I do feel so much better without the meat! While the veggie bacon leaves a lot to be desired, I'm not missing anything else. Weight loss, well, that's still an issue, but the scale has been slowing creeping downward all by itself. I don't know if it has anything to do with giving up meat (and not gorging on candy), but a slight trend has emerged. I'll keep you guys updated, of course!
Have a great rest of the day, everyone!
