A New Year, A New Beginning
By Alicia
It's a quiet, gray afternoon here in Ohio. Even with the balmy temperature of 48 degrees, the skies hold the same grim look they always do in winter -- hunkered down in flannel clouds, a sense of depressed determination and solidness. I have been wishing for snow to cheer things up. Hopefully by the end of the week, we will see some of that white stuff.
I'm ready to go again full speed ahead in my walking. While I've managed to average two to three miles each day during the holidays, it doesn't take the place of the good ol' five miler every morning. I signed up at the Wellness Center to participate in their newest exercise event. For the next 8 weeks, I will have to log 60 minutes of aerobic physical activity each day. At the end of the time frame, those with the most minutes get to win prizes like workout equipment and athletic gear. Fun! And besides, logging those minutes will be a breeze when I count the time I put in for walking five miles.
While I am solidly semi-vegetarian, I'm also redoing the diet thing. Yes, I know, you've been down that path with me so many times before. Charts, rewards, a dietician, supplements. I think I've done it all. I'm not sure what the answer is.
Maybe just slowing down and listening to myself more often. Maybe not trying as hard. Maybe coming to terms with what is really behind the weight gain. Maybe just doing it my way, with sincerity, acceptance, and respect for myself. I don't know. This is just one of those deals I guess I'll have to do over each morning, just like it's my first day of never trying it before.
I am happy, though, that it is the new year. I like fresh starts, new beginings, do-overs. The infectious energy of something new is always worth waiting for.
So, here's to wishing everyone a healthy and happy new year! May the excitement of this brand new time be with us throughout the rest of 2007!

Hi Alicia, could one of you please contact me at my email address as we need all four of your email addresses and shipping info to send you your USB pedometers for the WalkingSpree program.
Thanks!
